Our Curriculum

"My daughter is in reception but since joining Alexandra park has made so much progress already! I am extremely happy with the amount of care she gets and how fantastic her teachers are! It’s such a lovely environment and I would definitely recommend the school to other parents." - Parent comment

"One of the key principles of the school is consistency. This is very evident where teaching is concerned. A rigorous and wide-ranging programme of professional development ensures that teachers have very firm and broadly based subject knowledge. They are therefore able to teach with conviction and authority. They plan carefully to ensure that pupils consolidate their existing knowledge, apply it to a range of situations and further build on and extend it. Teachers also ensure that pupils use the technical language appropriate to each subject so that they develop confidence and facility in applying it in their questions and discussions. This further helps pupils Inspection report: Alexandra Park Primary School, 5–6 February 2019 Page 6 of 12 develop their understanding of the key concepts in a subject."

Curriculum overview

Children are at the heart of our curriculum and we believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop and build their independence, self-esteem and self-confidence. We are committed to our pupils becoming lifelong learners who are well prepared for secondary school and for their future career in our society.

Our curriculum aims to develop our pupils by providing:

  • Care –A curriculum that develops every child’s ability to care, respect and understand themselves, others and the world in which they live. A curriculum that also ensures that every child feels valued and cared for.
  • Aspire – A curriculum that provides a range of opportunities, designed to develop every child’s sense of what is possible for them to achieve now and in their future lives.
  • Achieve – A curriculum that ensures all children have the skills, knowledge and crucially, the attitude to achieve in all aspects of their lives.
Our full Curriculum Design can be found at the bottom of this page.

All our pupils have access to the full 2014 National Curriculum, differentiated to take into account individual learning needs. We reviewed our curriculum to ensure that key skills, knowledge and understanding are included. We have developed a creative, cross-curricular curriculum that motivates children whilst ensuring a broad and balanced range of study. More detailed information about Maths, Reading, Writing and PHSE can be found within the relevant classes so that you can see the coverage in each year group which is in accordance with the new National Curriculum.

Detailed information can be found in the class areas, which shows the topic covered and the subject areas and skills used. Sometimes the children are taught by subject specialists, for example by our visiting music specialist or by P.E and sports coaches which provide other valuable learning experiences.
