PGL

Our residential visits to PGL provide children with valuable opportunities to develop independence, build relationships and discover what they can achieve beyond the classroom. Through a range of outdoor activities, team challenges and shared experiences, children are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, support one another and celebrate their successes together.

These experiences bring our school values of Care, Aspire and Achieve to life. Children demonstrate Care by encouraging their peers, working as a team and showing kindness, patience and respect. They Aspire by embracing new challenges, approaching unfamiliar activities with curiosity and developing the confidence to try something different. They Achieve by persevering when things feel difficult, recognising their progress and celebrating both individual and collective accomplishments.

Our six Learning Behaviours are at the heart of the residential experience. Children develop independence as they take greater responsibility for themselves and their belongings; show pride in their efforts and achievements; demonstrate curiosity as they explore new activities and environments; use creativity to solve problems and approach challenges; practise collaboration by communicating, listening and working together; and build determination by persevering, overcoming setbacks and encouraging others to keep going.

Residentials also strengthen children's sense of belonging. Spending time together away from the familiar routines of school helps pupils form new friendships, appreciate one another's strengths and create shared memories. We want every child to return feeling proud of what they have achieved, more confident in their abilities and ready to take on their next challenge.

At PGL, success is not simply about completing an activity. It is about having the courage to try, the care to support others and the determination to keep going. These are the qualities we want children to carry with them into their learning, relationships and wider lives.
