Stockport Speaks

At Alexandra Park, we are proud to lead and support Stockport Speaks through our role as a Research School. This collaborative programme works with schools across Stockport to strengthen children’s communication, language and oracy skills. It recognises that developing confident communicators is fundamental to children’s learning, personal development and future success.
Through Stockport Speaks, we work with schools and education partners to share evidence-informed approaches to teaching and supporting language. We help develop staff expertise, share effective practice and create meaningful opportunities for children to listen, speak, discuss and express their ideas. A particular focus is placed on ensuring that children develop strong language foundations from the earliest stages of their education, helping them to access learning and communicate with confidence. Our leadership role reflects our commitment to Voice, Choice and Belonging. We want every child to feel confident expressing their thoughts, sharing their experiences and contributing to discussions. By developing children’s vocabulary, listening skills and ability to articulate their ideas, we help them find their voice and understand that their contributions matter.
As a Research School, Alexandra Park is committed to working collaboratively with other schools to strengthen practice and improve outcomes for children across Stockport. Our involvement in Stockport Speaks reflects our belief that communication is not simply a skill for English lessons; it is central to learning across the curriculum and to children’s ability to build relationships, participate in their community and make a positive contribution to the world around them.
