Year 5 recently visited Weaver Hall Workhouse and Museum to learn more about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We met a Viking called Olaf, who told us about a Viking trader’s travels, the precious goods sold, the role of the Viking women and home life. We discovered fearsome weapons and heavy armour then made a shield wall. We heard tales of Viking adventure, raids and their struggles with Anglo-Saxon people. We even roleplayed in some Viking stories and tried to solve some riddles. In an archaeology workshop, we excavated the burial of a warrior and worked out what the artefacts told us about Viking culture. We then made a copy of a Viking chess piece using clay.
